1. באתי מאריתראה. גדלתי בכפר, שם למדתי עד כיתה ו׳. בגלל המצב הקשה במדינה, עזבתי. רציתי חיים נורמליים. חשבתי על זה הרבה זמן. הבנתי שלא יהיה שינוי במדינה וידעתי שאם אני רוצה להמשיך לחיות, אין לי ברירה, אם אשאר ידעתי שאני אמות, לכן לא פחדתי לברוח. בשנת 2008 השארתי אישה וילדה, ועברתי את הגבול. לא נפרדתי מהם, גם לא מההורים, משני האחים שלי, משתי האחיות.

2. היום אני עדין אני חי, אבל לא קיבלתי חיים של בן אדם. אני חי בלי זכויות אדם. אי אפשר לעבוד ולהתפרס. אין לי מקלט. משנת 2010 שאני בישראל אני עובד בניקיון של בעיניינים וכבישים. היום בגלל החוק אני בקושי יכול לעבוד. אני מתגעגע. לא ראיתי את המשפחה שלי מאז, יש לי ילדה בת 12 שלא ראיתי. דיברתי קצת עם אשתי בשנים האלה, היא כעסה שעזבתי ככה, חשבתי שאולי יהיה יותר טוב ואוכל למצוא גם להן פתרון, אבל אין פתרון.

3. אני חושב שעד סוף שאני חי, תהיה החלטה טובה בשבילי. באתי להיות חי בעולם הזה. עובדה, אני עדין חי בכוח של אלוהים. אני נוצרי, אני מאמין. אני מקווה שיהיו לי חיים טובים. אני רוצה מקום שמכבד זכויות אדם ורוצה להתפרנס. אם הייתי יכול עוד, הייתי רוצה להמשיך את הלימודים שלי. למדתי היסטוריה והיום אני חלק מההיסטוריה. יש לי ספר גדול על חיי, הרבה מה לספר.

Shay, age 40

1. I came from Eritrea. I grew up in a village, where I studied until the 6^th I left because of the bad situation there. I wanted a normal life. I thought about it for a long time. I realized there will be no change in the country, and I knew that if I want to continue living I had no choice, I knew that if I stay I'll die, that's why I wasn't afraid to escape. In 2008, I left my wife and little girl behind and crossed the border. I didn't say goodbye to them, or to my parents, my two brothers and two sisters.
2. I'm still alive today, but I didn't get a human's life. I live without any Human Rights. I cannot work to make a living. I have no shelter. Since 2010, I've been cleaning buildings and roads in Israel. Today, with the new laws, I can hardly find work. I miss home. I didn't see my family since I left. I have a 12-year-old girl that I haven't seen. I talked to my wife a few times over the years, she was angry that I left this way. I thought it might be better and that I could find a solution for them too, but there's no solution.
3. I think that until the end of my life some good things will happen. I came to be alive in this world. It's a fact; I'm still alive with the power of God. I'm a devoted Christian. I hope I'll have a good life. I want to live in a place that respects Human Rights and I want to earn a living. If I could have, I would've liked to go back to school. I studied history, and now I'm part of it. There's a big book about my life, there's a lot to tell.
