  1. What did you want  to be ?

It was very clear to me, from a very young age, that I wanted to study math and physics. I loved those subjects. While I was still in high school, I started taking courses through the Open University and later continued to degree studies in math and physics.

I know that most people consider math and physics as boring and grey, but there is immense beauty in these subjects. Math enables viewing things  from  a different perspective in order to solve them. I think that’s what is magical about math – the ability to search elsewhere for a solution to a problem, to connect many things at once and then arrive at a solution.

The  same  with physics . Any attempt of simplifying complicated phenomena in nature and building models for them is awesome. Think of Newton, describing mechanics in three or four simple rules, taking all that and condensing it…so impressive.

  1. What do you do today ?

I have gone through a big change, moving to theatre. I started studying theatre, not thinking I would abandon math and physics, but because it attracted me.

Now I combine both – I teach theatre and am a director. I’ve directed plays at Habima and the Han theatre. I’m getting my doctorate in theatre while I continue to teach math. I haven’t given that up.

In the past, I’ve objected to seeing a connection between these two professions, but there probably is one, considering that my doctoral thesis is about order and chaos on the stage in contemporary German theatre. I’m trying to analyze the principles of organization and order.

It’s probably the way I think when I direct as well. I try to create a certain thing with very few rules and then a multitude from them. The way I view space, the way I view the actors’ movements through the space as a working physical system. The relationship between the actors and the space, the elements of the set…It’s very much a part of me.

  1. What’s your next dream ?

That’s a very tough question…my life has been very dynamic. Things have developed in such a way that I didn’t know what would happen next. It’s a feeling that reality brings surprising things regardless to what one dreams of.

Maybe I’m afraid to dream, there’s always that chance of being disappointed, but mainly I think it’s the marveling   from what a day might bring.

Having a dream sounds like a big thing, but sometimes dreams are small and reality is larger. Things happen suddenly and one only has to be open to embrace them. I think my true dream is to just not be afraid.
